Students should be practicing their math facts for a minimum of 10 minutes each day. Knowing their math facts with speed and accuracy will be essential for success in the third grade. It is important that each student finds a study strategy that works for them, such as using flash cards, playing an educational game, or writing out their facts.
We will have timed drills every Thursday. Your child will have 5 minutes to complete 36 multiplication facts. We will begin with multiplication facts and move into division as students master each fact. By the end of the year, your child should have multiplication facts up to 12 mastered and memorized. In order to move through each fact family, your child has to score an 83% or higher. If he/she is unable to pass within two tries, he/she will receive extra practice worksheets to help them master their facts.
